This piece works in direct reference to Gonzalez Torres' Untitled (Petit Palais), which I replicated and placed in the public sphere. The piece itself was connected to the city's electrical feed and would automatically light on and off thanks to a photocell that was placed above the lamp post. The work lasted nine days and nine nights before it was stolen. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Año: 2010 Materiales: focos de luz, alambrado eléctirco, fotocelda Esta pieza fue ideada como un homenage a Félix González Torres, y fue realizada para el XIII Festival del Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala. El punto de partida de la obra fue Untitled (Petit Palais) del artista cubano-americano, la cual yo saqué a la esfera pública, específicamente a la 6ta avenida y 13 calle de la zona 1 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. La pieza estaba conectada al alumbrado público de la ciudad y se encendía y apagaba automáticamente gracias a una fotocelda que se encontraba sobre el poste de luz. Adopting the idea of cultural cannibalism, and challenging the traditional ways of the art market, I sold pirated versions of over 110 artist videos by various artists. Thus, I made accessible the inaccessible, and presented a real informal sector solution, within a formal art fair. As a result, I questioned numerous issues dealing with authorship, the myth of originality, and the perplexity of the contemporary art market. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Año: 2010 Este proyecto fue presentado en el stand de Proyectos Ultravioleta, en los CIRCA LABS 2010, curados por Pablo Leon de la Barra. Adoptando el discurso atropofágico, y poniendo en jaque el modelo tradicional del mercado del arte, vendí copias piratas de más de 110 videos de varios artistas. Así, logré hacer accesible lo inaccesible, y presenté una solución de mercado informal adentro de una feria de arte formal. I then recorded the 50+ messages left in an answering machine by the would-be preachers, and played them in an audio loop coming out of the speaker. Luego, grabé los 50+ mensajes de los candidatos que llamaron y dejaron un mensaje de voz en una grabadora y creé un loop de audio que sonaba en el parlante. Collective in Bloomington, Indiana. Each one of us rode our bicycles through a predetermined route in the city of Bloomington, with mounted buckets filled with paint. As a result, we created extremely large drawing of pacman eating Indiana University's campus, conceived through the streaks of dripped paint that were left behind. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Año: 2005 Este dibujo callejero fue ejecutado junto con otros 12 miembros del colectivo A.T.A.R.I., en Bloomington, Indiana. Cada uno de nosotros montamos en nuestra bicicletas en una ruta predeterminada por las calles de Bloomington con cubetas llenas de pintura. Interactive installation for "Painting: The Incomplete Project", a show of contemporary Central American painting, presented in EspacioCE! in Antigua, Guatemala. As the spectator comes close to it, his/her presence activate two motion-based sensors that power the zelio, which in turn activate the 9 fans on the wall, at random. Thus, the piece comes to life, creating a unique painterly experience for each of the spectators that interact with it. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Año: 2009 Materiales: 9 ventiladores, 2 sensores de movimiento, 1 zelio, pintura de aceite brillante. Instalacion interactiva hecha especificamente para "Pintura: El Proyecto Incompleto", una muestra de pintura contemporanea centroamericana, presentada en EspacioCE! en Antigua, Guatemala. Cuando el espectador se acerca a la pieza, su presencia activa dos sensores de movimiento que prenden el zelio. Este acciona los 9 ventiladores que estan montados sobre la pared, al azar. Entonces, la instalacion cobra vida, creando una experiencia pictorica unica para cada espectador que interactua con ella.
